Getting Much Needed Sleep with ZzzQuil
(This is a sponsored post and was written in collaboration with ZzzQuil™.)
Getting a good night’s sleep is hard to come by these days for me. After a two-week trip to Asia last month, I came back feeling sluggish and really tired. The worst part was, I had to go back to work the same week, which meant I had to get my sleep schedule back on track right away. Unfortunately, it wasn’t easy. I would be in bed at 10 pm but end up tossing and turning till 2 am and getting up for work at around 5 am. Imagine working for twelve hours with only three hours of sleep. It was absolutely dreadful! I didn’t like the fact that I would rely heavily on caffeine to help keep me up at work.
When ZzzQuil reached out to me and asked me to try their new products, I said yes without hesitation. I knew I had to get back to my regular routine at home and if that meant trying something new, I was all up for it.
Why is sleep important to me?
Before anything else, I should probably let you guys know that I love to sleep. The amount of hours I get usually predetermines the outcome of my day. Lack of sleep = grumpy Janna. Sleep is important to me because it gives me energy to get through my day. When I’m on the road, I normally fall asleep at a reasonable time due to exhaustion after a long day of exploring. The struggle starts when I get back home.
In addition to adjusting to different time zones, being at home means getting back to reality; which can be stressful sometimes. Work, blog deadlines and running my online brand are just some of the few things that keep me up at night. One of the things that help me get back on track is my nighttime routine.
Nighttime routine:
I think my nighttime routine is pretty standard as far as routine goes. I usually take a shower or take a bath depending on my mood but it is imperative that I do either one before bed. After brushing my teeth, flossing and using mouthwash, I check and answer emails before settling down. On a typical night, I usually watch my tv shows and check Instagram before finally dozing off. But over the past couple of weeks, I experimented with a few products ZzzQuil sent to me, to see how it can help me find a more relaxing evening routine.
Trying the products:
I had my husband try these products with me because he also has trouble winding down. His is more frequent because he works night shifts as a nurse. We tried the items sent to us in a 2-week span.
- Vicks ZzzQuil™ PURE Zzzs™ Melatonin Gummies – is my favorite among the products sent to me. It comes in a natural wild berry flavor and contains the optimal level of melatonin with no next-day grogginess*. Not to mention it contains a blend of lavender, chamomile, valerian root and lemon balm. What I like the most about the gummies is that it doesn’t taste like medicine and they’re super easy to take (good for people who have trouble swallowing pills). I used the recommended 1 to 2 gummies 30 minutes before bedtime (during my work days) and it works like a charm!
- Vicks® PURE Zzzs™ Soothing Aromatherapy Balm – is now part of my nighttime routine because of its soothing aromas to help me relax. I love that it consists of two of my favorite essential oils: lavender and chamomile. Another plus, the balm also has a moisturizing formula of coconut oil and aloe leaf extract, which glides on smoothly to my skin leaving it moisturized and soft.
Final Thoughts:
After taking Vicks ZzzQuil™ PURE Zzzs™ Melatonin Gummies for a couple of weeks, I can definitely see a difference in my sleeping pattern. It certainly helped me overcome that dreadful jet lag! I still use it every now and then when I get those sleepless nights. It just makes it easier for me to fall asleep, which in turn helps me to be productive the next day.
Just a few reminders:
- Please read the label and use products only as directed.
- Each person may have different reactions to the products I’ve mentioned. Speak to your doctor if you have any concerns about the products listed here.
I would love to try these products out because I suffer from sleep problems all the time. I don’t think that they’re available in South Africa where I live though 🙁
Maybe you can order them through Amazon? It worked pretty well for me especially when I get those sleepless nights. Hope you can try it out too!
Totally agree with you, a night time routine is crucial! Never knew Vicks made melatonin gummies so that’s super cool. That help many people sleep better and getting a good nights sleep is important. Great post!
Yeah they actually just came out with the product! I work in the medical field so I’m very careful about medications that I take but since they came out with something more natural, I figured why not try it? And it worked out for me! Thanks Steph and Zach!
I have issues sleeping when I travel and need to try something, these look easy and who doesn’t love jellies. Will have to give them a try soon.
It works well especially for frequent travelers who have trouble sleeping because of the time difference. and plus its a natural way to sleep! no drugs! 🙂
I’ve only used sleeping tablets once and they kept me awake! Maybe I should give these melatonin gummies a try the next time I travel and struggle to sleep on the first night in a new destination.
You should definitely check it out Linda! I do want to point out that not everyone will have the same experience but for me it worked quite well. If you have any concerns, pls speak to your doctor about it. 🙂
Reading this while still very jetlagged after a 30 hour flight home from Nepal (and dealing with a 10 hour time difference), and having to go to an all-day meeting at work the next day, I can definitely relate. I’m not generally a fan of sleep aids but the aromatherapy one seems worth a try.
Eeek you had quite the busy day/s Carrie! I’m not a big fan of sleep aids that make me groggy the next day. What I like about this one is its a natural approach, since our body already produces melatonin naturally. But of course if you have any concerns, speak to your doctor about it. Thanks for visiting!
This will be super helpful during jet lags.
However I am worried on one account – will I get addicted to it?
Just from my knowledge, It’s not habit forming because our body already produces melatonin. So by taking this supplement, it just enhances the levels of the melatonin in our body. Unlike the other products with diphenhydramine that makes you groggy the next day because of the drug. Hope that helps! If you have any questions, pls speak to your doctor before trying it.
I love a good night’s sleep. When I was younger, I didn’t give it much importance. But now I know how a goodnight sleep will impact my day. It seems like a good product. Thank you!
I feel you! I was like that too. I had so much energy when I was younger and rarely slept. But now I need at least 7-8 hrs to feel energized the next day. Thanks for visiting Kirstie!
Sleep is very important to all of us. A long-distance travel into a different time zone can deprive us of our normal sleeping pattern and throw us off-balance. To some, pills or other stuff like the gummies you featured help in getting a good sleep. I don’t normally take similar products but just let nature takes its course.
I agree Ash. It’s definitely not for everyone. Some can easily fall asleep right away or have a routine already set that helps them fall asleep naturally but for others like me or my husband who works in the medical field, sometimes our sleep schedules are way off so it helps on sleepless nights. But of course, like with anything, it should be taken appropriately.
Sleep is really important to me and I am considering trying out medications that help improve my sleeping habits. However, it would be great if this post listed all the ingredients of this drug. Also, I have read that this is actually listed as an antihistamine, so wouldnt it have any problems if you took this for consecutive days? For now, I will stick to my lavander essential oil until I am sure there are no harmful side effects.
Hey Karla! It’s actually not a drug. It’s a supplement. Melatonin is not an antihistamine. Where did you read that information exactly? Melatonin is something our body produces naturally. It’s not habit forming. By taking this supplement, it just enhances the levels of the melatonin in our body. Unlike the other products with diphenhydramine that makes you groggy the next day because of the drug. But of course, it should be taken appropriately like with any supplement or medications. Hope that helps! If you have any questions, pls speak to your doctor before trying it.
I think I’m very lucky that I don’t have any problems falling asleep, ever! The only issue I run into is sleeping on planes. I might try taking this for an overnight flight!
It might work for those sleepless nights after traveling through time zones. And it’s just a supplement not a drug so you don’t have to worry about that groggy feeling the next day.
