I remember when I was a young kid living in Manila, Philippines, I would see this beautiful landscape as the wallpaper in our desktop. I’ve always wondered where it was. I knew it was real. But in the back of my mind I’ve always questioned, could something like this really exist? Fast forward to last year…my questions have finally been answered. It is real! So real that it’s only less than 5 hours away from my home!
The first time I set foot into the walkway leading to the viewpoint, I told my husband to guide me while I looked down. I wanted to have this grand reveal. Yeah it’s a little bit dramatic but it was something I’ve been looking forward to since I was a kid.
And then it happened. I looked up and saw this beautiful hole in the ground in front of me. It didn’t look real. It looked like someone painted it. I struggled to get a better view. I fought my way through a crowd armed with selfie sticks and giant iPads. It was not an easy feat! But after what seemed to be a good minute or two, a few more people made their way through where I was and then poof my unobstructed view was gone. I gave up and we decided to go further down the walkway which lead to a trail. The thinning crowd was promising so we kept going till we only saw a couple of people here and there. The best thing about Grand Canyon is that because of its vastness, there’s really no shortage of great views.
Since then, we’ve been back 3 times and I’m sure we’ll keep adding to that. Every time we have a visitor from out of town, we always bring them here. And who could really blame us. I mean look at it.
What to try next:
There’s more to Grand Canyon than meets the eye. This is my top 2 things I want to do next time we visit:
1.) Do a 12+ mile hike to Havasu Falls, Mooney Falls & Beaver Falls. I’ve been wanting to do this hike since last year but never really got around to it. I’m trying to rally a group of people who want to do this hike with me. Any takers? 😉
2.) Experience the rapids of the Colorado River by Whitewater Rafting. The daredevil in me finds this exhilarating! I’m not really the bungee jump type of girl (coz I’m a wuss) but this I can definitely do..I think.
How about you guys? Are these part of your bucket list too?
